What One Can Do...

Raise Your Voice for Those Who Are Voiceless

Political advocacy is a critical piece of God's mission of global reconciliation and making the Millennium Development Goals a reality. Jesus continually spoke truth to power and used his own power to help those on society's margins. As Christians, we are called to follow in that example -- to raise our voices for those whom the powers of the world would push to the side

Here are some excellent MDG advocacy opportunities for One person, One family, One congregation and more.

The Episcopal Public Policy Network

EPPN logoEvery Episcopalian should be a part of EPPN. When you join, you will get periodic email alerts when MDG issues (or other major issues on which the Episcopal Church has policy) enabling you quickly to contact your senators and representatives telling them how you feel they should vote. Responding to most alerts takes less than 2 minutes. Sign up by clicking here -- and then tell all your friends to sign up, too. Also email EPPN director Mary Getz to get an EPPN poster with signup cards to hang in your parish hall or narthex.

EPPN links to resources:

ONE Vote '08

ONE vote 08 logoONE Vote '08 is an unprecedented bipartisan campaign to make global health and extreme poverty foreign policy priorities in the 2008 presidential election. ONE Vote '08 is asking every candidate to sign on to five achievable goals drawn from the MDGs as well as a presidential platform of achievable solutions that -- if championed by the next U.S. president -- would have a profound impact on the poorest people in the world. By becoming a part of ONE Vote '08, we speak as ONE voice to candidates of both parties saying that unless they address the concerns of the extreme poor around the world, they will not get ONE vote from us.

The ONE Vote '08 website has lots of cool stuff, including a candidate tracker, which lets you know where every candidate is so you can go see them in your area and urge them to support the MDGs in person!

Click here for a video of presidential candidates from both parties talking about the ONE Campaign and making poverty history.
